Le Mourre Nègre

Le Mourre Nègre

A circuit affording breathtaking views. This hike will take you up to the meadows on top of the ridges and le Mourre Nègre, the highest peak in Grand Luberon.

IGN map Top 25 3242 - 5 hours - Distance : 9 km (5.5 miles) - Altitude change : 600 m (1968 feet) - Starting point : Mourre Nègre carpark in Auribeau.

How ?
Coming from Apt, take the RD 48 for Saignon, drive to the top of the village and at the Post Office (Poste), head in the direction of Auribeau.
As you arrive in the village, turn right to "Parking Mourre Nègre" or "Aire L. Peysson". The road goes down and then up, and the car park is situated at the top of a steep path.
Near the car park there is a yellow signpost with: "Marauvière" on it: follow the yellow markers. (500 meters after beginning, at an intersection, keep left - both paths are marked with yellow markers)
At "Marauvière", follow the signposts for "La Basse de Cabrières", (again, via the yellow markings). Once at the top, follow the directions for "Mourre Nègre" as far as "Jas de Brémond". Make a little detour to the huge antenna on the top, 1125 metres (3690 feet) up, which affords spectacular 360° views.
When you come to "Jas de Brémond", go down towards "Aire L. Peysson", follow the yellow markings back to your car via the forest path.
